Climate Finance Project Certification

Climate finance is widely recognised as an important instrument for facilitating climate change mitigation and sustainable development.  It provides companies and institutions with a credible means to enhance their corporate social responsibility programmes and lower their carbon footprints, by investing in projects that reduce emissions and deliver long-term social and economic benefits to some of the most vulnerable and impoverished communities.

Following the inception of the carbon market, several credible voluntary project certification bodies have emerged, including the Gold Standard for the Global Goals and the Voluntary Carbon Standard. Projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to sustainable development can be certified  under one of these standards, resulting in the issuance of carbon credits, where one credit is equivalent to one tonne of carbon that a project avoids or removes from the atmosphere. The revenues generated through the sale of the carbon credits for carbon offsetting and corporate social responsibility purposes, provide a long-term financing mechanism for the projects.

With 10 years of experience designing and managing a range of high impact climate finance projects and Programme of Activities (PoAs) under the Gold Standard and VCS, we are able to offer consultancy services for each stage of the certification process from carrying out feasibility assessments through to certifying projects and linking project developers with investors.
